Why a magazine? So I have been asked a number of Why a magazine? So I have been asked a number of times this month, why on earth @franminifiebrandphotography and I are launching a magazine? Well firstly, it's been something I've wanted to do for the past couple of years. The women who come into The Tribe are fascinating and they have so many stories and so much wisdom to share. This deserves to be shared further afield so more women can learn from them. Also I know there are incredible women who don't come to The Tribe and I want us all to discover their stories too. The Tribe only reaches so many women but a magazine has a much larger potential to reach more women. Secondly, the lack of relatable role models, mentors, sponsors and networks is a significant barrier to women starting and growing business. But sharing the stories of local Devon-based women we can help to overcome this. Seeing a woman who lives where you live, doing something amazing can inspire us to take action too. She's just like us so it makes us feel like it's possible for us too. After all you can't be what you can't see, right? Thirdly, Athena magazine will act as a directory of all the amazing female-owned businesses in Devon. I am always asked to recommend and connect people and I spend so much time doing this. With a magazine we will be able to capture this and create a resource for women to refer to when they are looking for services, products or support for their business. Life is so f*cking awesome right now!!! We've be Life is so f*cking awesome right now!!! We've been in our new space for about 7 weeks now and I can hand on heart say that they have been some of the best and most scary weeks I've had since I started this journey. This has been the best August we have ever had. The busiest in terms of women using the space. The best in terms of revenue. The best in terms of fulfilment. Honestly it's been incredible. I have to keep stopping and taking time to realize just how far we've come. Just how much all the hard work has paid off. Just how accurately the vision has become reality. I ALWAYS knew we could get here. Even when everything seemed to be falling apart, I held onto that deep inner knowing that this was not only possible but inevitable as long as I never gave up. If you have a dream for your business and your life, I implore you to hold onto the vision. Visualize it every day. Then take the small actions every day that will take you closer to the vision. That is what it takes. Small consistent steps in the right direction every single day. Until one day you wake up and everything has suddenly fallen into place and you are living what was once a dream. I honestly can't wait to see what September has in store for us. I'm excited to launch @athenamagazinedevon and build an even stronger community of women in business in Devon. I'm excited to host all the events and workshops in the new studio space. Athena Magazine aims to empower Devon-based women in business with actionable insights, inspiring stories, and a supportive community. We hope to provide support to help you thrive and a place to celebrate your successes. In creating this magazine we hope to showcase relatable mentors, role models and networks that will inspire not only local women, but also the next generation of women who are still coming through the education system. The magazine will be free to read, and available online (particularly at first), although we do hope to offer print editions in the future. The magazine is a project by @FranMinifieBrandphotography and @StaceyJSheppard of @thetribecoworks, who have teamed up to create a fabulous resource for local women in business. The magazine will feature a range of articles that will be useful for local women in business, including features on local businesswomen and their stories, useful information about local networking events, coworking spaces and awards, plus articles that will help with advice on tax, marketing, legal advice for small businesses and more! We'll also be accepting article submissions from local women in business, so if you would like to write an article for us, please get in touch with your ideas or your article for consideration. Happy International Coworking Day everyone!!! I Happy International Coworking Day everyone!!! I so badly wanted to plan a big event for today but I just don't have the energetic capacity at the moment. There is A LOT going on for me at the moment and I am very aware that I can't spread myself too thinly. So what is part 2 of the breaking news? Well as soon as we moved into the office, our neighbours moved out!!! Day after day I sat here longingly thinking about all the additional community events we could run in that space. I kept peaking through the window and imagining our members running their workshops and classes in there. Having a second space would enable me to make the Tribe into the nourishing space I've been dreaming of. Where we don't just work on our businesses but where we also work on our bodies and take care of our mental health. And someone where all the creatives in our community can come together. The women who don't need desk space but who do need studio and workshop space. Last week I felt the nudge to just let my landlord know that I'm interested (but also scared) and he very kindly said we could trial it. So now I have keys and we have another new space!!! But I do need your help. In order to make The Tribe into a more holistic club house for local women and keep this studio space for us, I need you all to come together and tell me how you want to use it, what activities and events you'd like us to run, what you would be interested in hosting here. I want to make it as accessible as possible, especially if you are just starting out, because I know how tough it can be to get a business off the ground. "Faith and fear both require you to believe in som "Faith and fear both require you to believe in something you cannot see. You choose" I love this quote from Bob Proctor @proctorgallagher and it's true, isn't it? Both faith and fear are the emotions that we attach to a possible outcome. Faith asks us to believe that from uncertainty a positive outcome will prevail. She asks us to trust ourselves, our abilities, our experience and ultimately to trust that everything will unfold in the best possible way. Fear on the other hand asks us to introduce doubt. To be afraid of all the ways that things might go wrong. It asks us to conjure up negative outcomes and to self-abandon in the name of safety and comfort. But we get to choose. Do we want to choose faith or fear? Personally I always want to choose faith and just expect that everything is always working out for my higher good. But that doesn't mean that the fear isn't still there. I just have to feel the fear and do the scary shit anyway. It is so frickin' uncomfortable but it cannot be avoided. Doing something we have never done is always scary. But we can overcome the fear together. We do not need to sit in the muddy trenches of growth alone. We can hold each other's hand and support each other through the discomfort. Because we all know that the magic is in the work we are avoiding, right?? So I am launching a brand new club. It is called the Faith over Fear Club. The point of the club is to come together in person and online for a day a month to do needle work. I'm not talking about embroidery here. I'm talking about the scary shit we've been putting off. The work that really moves the needle. *Writing that book *Launching that course *Planning that workshop *Doing that webinar *Starting that podcast *Opening that Etsy store *Making that website *Signing up for that opportunity Whatever you've been avoiding, I guarantee you it feels worse to avoid it than it does to make a start. If you're currently feeling a bit lacking when it comes to money, have a look at this list of other forms of wealth and see how you are doing there. I think you'll probably find you're actually pretty damn wealthy. Robin says if we focus on the other 7 forms of wealth the money will follow.
